We talk a lot about mental health. But sometimes the experience is much more ordinary than the words suggest.
It’s the mind replaying a conversation while you’re trying to sleep.
It’s thinking about tomorrow while you’re still dealing with today.
It’s overanalysing a decision.
It’s reacting to an emotion before you’ve had the chance to understand what you’re feeling.
It’s being physically present in a meeting, a conversation or even a meal — while your mind is somewhere else.
And sometimes, we’re simply tired of being inside our own heads.
This World Mental Health Day, The Orange Room is exploring a different way of approaching this.
WHEN THE MIND WON’T SWITCH OFF
An Immersive Introduction to Meditation
Rather than presenting meditation as something mystical or as simply a way to “relax”, this 3-hour experiential programme looks at meditation through the lens of everyday mental wellbeing.
We’ll explore how different practices can help us practise:
Attention : noticing where the mind goes.
Awareness : recognising thoughts, emotions and sensations as they arise.
Pause : creating a little space before automatically reacting.
Presence: coming back to the experience of actually being here.
Participants will experience visual, sound and mantra meditation, breath awareness, body scanning, movement, walking meditation and loving-kindness , with time to discover which practices feel useful to them.
This session is particularly designed for people who are new to meditation or curious about building a simple personal practice.

Maybe mental wellbeing doesn’t always begin with finding all the answers.
Sometimes, it begins with learning to pause long enough to notice what is happening.
Come curious. Explore. Find what works for you.
